Hot Tips
  • Computer:  If your computer is running slow, check for installed programs you don't need. If it was always slow, even after a system re-install, try some more RAM.
  • Car:  With high gas prices and the environmental emphasis these days, make sure your car is in perfect tune. With modern systems, they require much less attention but still change out plugs after 20K and check spark plug wires for old age or damp weather failure. Also, turn off the wasteful a/c or climate control and roll down the windows and slow down.
  • Outdoors:  Be ready for a bumper crop of bugs, it's damp out there!

Northway Facts:
  • The Road is posted 55 mph from the Thruway in Albany, Exit 1 to Halfmoon, Exit 8, about MP 10; it's 65 mph all the way north to Exit 42 in Champlain, where it's 55 mph again for less than a mile before the Canadian Border.
  • Interstate 87 is totally in New York State, though I-287 goes to CT and NJ
  • The emergency phones never work or even ever worked to my personal knowledge
  • Cell phone service is dead from Exit 28 north to at least Exit 33
  • It's 6 lanes to Exit 22, Lake George, it's 4 lanes all the way north to Quebec, Canada
  • The troopers are using patrol cars, mainly blue Ford Crown Victorias, with no light bars on the roofs
  • The Southbound High Peaks Welcome center, about M.P. 100, is where Customs does road blocks occasionally

Okay, Summer's here, gas is expensive but come up here and save on air conditioning!
